Artist's CommentsTitle: "The Entombment" (pen & ink stage) Size: 8"x8" Medium: Pen & Ink drawing Date: 2003 Comments: I am very disappointed at my scanner. I've lost at least 4 grades of value in my drawing just from the scan *sigh* -- it is way more detailed in person. This is a freehand drawing inspired by Peter Paul Rubens' "The Entombment", seen at The Getty Museum in Los Angeles. I had to do a final project for History of Western (European) Art, so I chose to do this drawing I've wanted to do for a long time. This will soon be graced with watercolors. For my insights about this drawing, please visit: Artist Statement The original painting can be viewed at this url: Peter Paul Rubens - The Entombment All constructive comments are highly appreciated and I will visit those who leave good feedback. Thanks for looking! --Jim--- --------------------------- --------------------------- "...Christ's torso. It looks strange." [*helloitsjanet] Note about torso: you can read my statement for more info on his anatomy. It looks weird on purpose (haven't treated the other ribcage yet), it will look more realistic once the watercolors have been applied. That problem will balance out.. but gooood observation |

Only fools say in thier hearts "there is no God" Psalm 14:1
You've done well, I think. It looks rather like the original painting by Rubens. However, I have a gripe about Christ's torso. It looks strange. The dark triangle-ish shaped shadow looks really awkward. You've done well with folds of cloth. It's fascinating the detail you can capture using a pen. You're good at it.
Apart from that, I like the style. It's not exactly Rubens although there is a likeness. It's something that can only be captured using ink, I suppose. It's a little stylized... I don't quite know how to explain it.
Watercolour you say? Can't wait for it *GRIN*
it reminds me of gustav dore's woodcuts for 'dante'...
once i finished the pen and ink, however, i'd be hesitant to color it in...
take your time with the watercolor; it's apparent a *lot* of work went into this!
lovely work!
Great idea for a picture at this time of year that just past lately. Goes well with the times.
Great job once again. *muah*
