Title: "Iconoclast"
Size: approx. 24" x 18"
Medium: Ballpoint pen drawing
Date: 2003
Comments: This drawing is a rough blueprint of what will become a large bronze and mix-media (modern) icon. There is so much heartfelt and thought out symbolism represented here, I can't go into much detail because it'd be a book.

The "Iconoclast" is a term for a sect of spiritual people in the days when iconography was popular, but highly deemed blasphemous by the Iconoclastic movement. These people are called "Iconoclasts" because they went around destroying religious icons that carried pagan attributes, basing their claim from the 2nd commandment, which condemns worship towards a created image.

My art is not meant to be worshipped *duh*, but my purpose is relating to people how superficial religion is.

If anyone is brave enough to attempt and unravel much of the symbolism in this piece, I'll give a 1 month subscription to those who give great insight and answers, and reasons for their answers.

Side note: the panels with text are to be etched with acid over the mirror and stained glass, with chosen scriptures and another scene not yet shown.

hmm ok ima try @ this.. not sure if im gonna do it like you wanted...but ill just say what im thinking/seems/what i know...

upperLEFT- virgin mary/star of nazarith?/3 wise men represents by the 3 stars
middleLEFT-in cathalism(sp?) your drink of wine & eat the"eucarist" the cup is full of bones/nail representing drink of the BODY OF CHRIST
lowerLEFT-seems to be of Roman Catholic when it was influenced/force upon the europeans so its like government & religion mix

fish symbols jesus dove symbols peace--
the crown of throwns@top with the mirror b/c jesus was son of god,we are all reflections of him--

the tree in midcenter is resembling garden of eden with the forbidden friut (apple) and how a tree is branching off to different biblical stories/happenings
the roots show how DEEP the stories are and gives it more depth and meaning

mountains/water/scroll are all from the stories of the bible -parting red sea,maybe moses & 10 commandments(mountain/scroll)

and of course the cross and heart all represent (crucifiction) how jesus died on the cross for us to be saved/born again..which is why the fetus is produced by the blood of christ

upperRIGHT- symbolizes when jesus rose from the dead..
middleRIGHT- insert
lowerRIGHT- shows the fiery hell and the serpant is suppose to symbol "evil"/"satan" .. im not sure if that hyragliphics(sp?) -cant spell- back in the egyptian days... a stake is supposedly through its heart to kill the evil?? ummm and their is a chain..... maybe hes bound to hell.?

hmm, left panel has me blank, but we have the blood of Christ which covers all, even the unborn child which IS alive because it's touched by the tree of life, the way and the vine, Jesus. The same stake that pierced the heart of Jesus killed the snake, Satan, who we were bound to for eternal life (hence the Aunk(sp?)) and who now shall live in Hell.

It's a timeline....and I can't follow it, but I love it.
